Class 2

Welcome to Year 2!

This year the teacher working in Year 2 is Mrs Bennett.  Mrs Butterworth and Mrs Willis will be supporting in the classroom every day.  Miss Warren will be teaching in the classroom on a Tuesday afternoon to cover Mrs Bennett's PPA time.

This term we are looking forward to lots of different activities, like Sports Day and a visit from the Fire Service.  For our topic learning the children will discover more about the Pilgrims and North America. They will focus on a North American national park and make comparisons with Dartmoor. In Maths, we will complete our learning about measurement (length and height , position and direction, mass, capacity and analogue time). We will continue to challenge ourselves with our 2x, 3x , 5x and 10x times tables. In English, the children will complete their wishing stories and revisit the grammar they have learnt in Year 1 and Year 2.

Our PE session is on a Monday afternoon.  Please send your child into school in their PE kit every Monday.

Please keep checking back for updates and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Homework Activities

During the school day your child will read regularly in small groups and on their own.  In order to help your child develop their reading skills, it is expected that they will read at least three times per week at home.

As well as reading, your child will be expected to learn their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables so that they can recall the answers quickly.  They will also have weekly spelling sheets to complete.  Once a month, the children will bring home a piece of homework relating to the current value. They will share this completed learning with their friends, in the classroom,  at the end of each month. If you have any questions regarding your child’s homework please do not hesitate to ask one of the Year 2 team.
