Class 5/6 B

Welcome to class 5/6B.  I hope that you have enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and New Year with your family. This term promises to be fun-filled and busy!

Our topic for history and geography is Ancient Egypt, focusing upon the extensive empire and the key characters or events which shaped it. Did you realise that Tutankhamun was only nine years old when he ascended to the throne?

In English, we will be writing our fiction story, using cohesion, exciting sentence openers and vivid description to engage and entertain.  As part of being a successful writer, spelling is a priority this term and you will find both the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 spelling word lists at the bottom of the page. For reading, we will focus upon a range of text types but our class novel is The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan (who also created the Percy Jackson series).  Reading is a vital skill for any child and by them reading at least three times a week at home, they will see a huge difference in their knowledge and ability.

Meanwhile, maths will see the class learn all about calculation, averages and statistics! Please, help your child with their times tables knowledge by accessing TT Rockstars at least three times a week. I will also be challenging children on the app and provding paper copies for those who don't have access at home!

P.E this term will involve invasion games, seeking to develop courage, teamwork and co-ordination. Please, remember that our P.E days are Tuesday and Thursday so your child needs to have their kit in school.

Homework is set every Friday: one piece of English and one piece of maths, as well as reading three times a week, completing spellings and practising times tables. This will be due in the following Wednesday. If it is completed to a good standard and handed in regularly, there will be a reward.

Please, don't hesitate to contact me via Class Dojo or email (scott.booth@woodfieldpri.co.uk) if you have any questions or issues. I will also post regularly on Class Dojo.
