School Day

So that children have a positive start to their day, we have a rolling start time.  This enables the children to come into school within a ten-minute window and get themselves prepared for the day.  The teachers welcome the children in and listen to any news that they would like to share before the main teaching sessions start.

Start of the day

The main school gates are opened at 8:40am by a member of our Senior Leadership and Pastoral Team, who are there to welcome the children and to speak to any parents who might have questions.  The gates are closed at 8:50am.  If your child arrives after this time, they must use the gate at the top of the school drive.

It is essential that children arrive at school on time every day, so that they are prepared and ready to learn.

Playtime

Playtime is at 10:45am – 11:00am and we use both of our playgrounds.  Year 1 and Year 2 use the playground at the front of school and Years 3 – 6 use the back playground.  At this time, Years 1 and 2 are provided with free fruit as a snack.  The older children are allowed to bring in a piece of fruit as a snack from home if they choose.

Lunchtime

Lunchtime is between 12:10pm – 1:10pm which is supervised by our teaching assistants.  We believe that by using our teaching assistants, it means that the staff really know the children and are best placed to support the children at play.   Furthermore, they have a great understanding of our relationship approach to behaviour and are able to assist the children as they build positive relationships with one another.

End of the day,

At the end of the day, members from our Senior Leadership and Pastoral Teams open the gates by 3:10pm and the children are brought out by their class teachers at 3:15pm.  Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 come out into our front playground and are handed over one at a time to their adults.  Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 all come out through our main school door before meeting their parents.

Wrap Around Care

Wrap Around Care is available at the school from 7:30am – 5:45pm, please click here for more details.

Nursery Timings

The Nursery run morning and afternoon sessions these are 8:45am – 11:45am and then 12:30 – 3:30pm.  There is a lunchtime club that is also available from 11:45am – 12:30pm for the children who stay all day.  The children are met by the nursery team at their entrance at the beginning of the session.  The staff are there to support the children transition into nursery and answer any questions that parents might have.

School Lunches

Our school lunches are prepared and cooked fresh on site by our amazing cook Rachel and Kelly.  We buy into CaterEd to ensure that the children have a balanced health meal.  Rachel is a very experienced cook and can support all dietary requirements.  Please contact the school office if you have any questions for her.

Plymouth City Council - Free School Meals

It is really important to us as a school for any parents who might be able to apply for free school meals to do so, even if you don't plan on having a school lunch as it brings extra funding to the school.

Uniform

At Woodfield, we encourage the children to always take pride in wearing their school uniform.  We believe it gives the children a sense of belonging and unites us all behind a common identity.  It also helps us to identify each other when we are out and about in the community.  We encourage the children to look after their belongings and we ask that you ensure that all your child’s clothes are clearly marked with their name.

The uniform is:

  • Grey skirt, pinafore or trousers
  • White polo shirt
  • Navy blue sweatshirt or cardigan (Branded with the school logo or plain)
  • Black school shoes

PE Kit

  • White crew neck t-shirt (Branded in your child's team colour or plain)
  • Black shorts, leggings or tracksuit bottoms

The school is committed to ensuring that we keep the costs as low as possible for families when purchasing uniform.  We have a Trust policy to ensure that this is fair and consistent across our school.  Whilst we have branded uniform we are happy if parents would prefer to purchase plain unbranded uniform from other sources.

Please note that

  • the black shoes should be flat and fit well with minimal branding
  • jewellery should not be worn,  any earrings should be small studs
  • no make-up or nail varnish should be worn to school.

Thank you for your continued support
