Welcome to Year 5 (2021-22)
Class teachers: Mr Booth
Teaching assistants: Miss Cox and Mrs Williams
Welcome back after the summer holidays! This term, we will be studying a fascinating variety of topics across the subjects, including materials in science, setting and character description in English and a very exciting history topic,Victorians! I cannot wait to get to know the class and help all the children make excellent progress.
One of our core focuses for the term and the year is the enjoyment of reading and seeing it bring pleasure to each and every one of the children. To support your child, please ensure that they read at least 3 times each week (ideally with an adult at least once) and use the new bookmarks that I have given them to engage in conversation about the text they are reading.
To ensure that the children continue to develop well with maths, it is essential that they continually practise and perfect their times table knowledge. It is a key skill across much of the maths curriculum and it is a skill for life. To help you support your child, please access TT Rockstars via the website or using the sheets sent for homework at least three times a week.
Every Friday, homework will be given which will focus upon English, maths and personal wellbeing. The learning will either support or pre-empt the learning from class. This homework will be due the following Wednesday, when it will be marked and filed to monitor their progress. If there are any pieces which you would like additional support with then do not hesitate to contact me via Class Dojo or through the school office.
Thursday is our P.E. day this year and we have an awesome new P.E. scheme called Real P.E. that we are looking forward to using with the children. It is an excellent programme that sees every child as an individual, helping them to become more physically active. Please, ensure that your child has their kit with them every Thursday.
Each week the children will be expected to:
1) Log on to Times Tables Rocks Stars at least 3 times per week.
We will also send home worksheets to be completed as part of home learning.
2) Complete their spelling homework.
This will be given out every Friday and due in the next Wednesday. It is your child’s responsibility to make sure it is completed and handed in on time.
3) Read at least 3 times a week.
Please listen to your child regularly and ask questions to check they have understood what they have read.
Reading books and reading records should be brought to school each day.
** On occasion, there may be a piece of English, Maths, Science or Topic homework related to the work they have been doing in class. **
