Welcome to Year 5 (2020-21)
Class teachers: Mr Booth & Mrs Whittingham
Teaching assistant: Mrs Bellerby
Welcome back after the May Half Term This term, we will be studying a fascinating variety of topics across the subjects, including animals (including humans) in science, diary writing in English and a very exciting geography topic, South America! I cannot wait to see the children back learning as they have really made me proud over the previous two terms.
One of our core focuses for the term and the year is the enjoyment of reading and seeing it bring pleasure to each and every one of the children. To support your child, please ensure that they read at least 3 times each week (ideally with an adult at least once) and use the new bookmarks that I have given them to engage in conversation about the text they are reading.
To ensure that the children continue to develop well with maths, it is essential that they continually practise and perfect their times table knowledge. It is a key skill across much of the maths curriculum and it is a skill for life. To help you support your child, please access TT Rockstars via the website or using the sheets sent for homework at least three times a week.
Every Friday, homework will be given which will focus upon English, maths and personal wellbeing. The learning will either support or pre-empt the learning from class. This homework will be due the following Wednesday, when it will be marked and filed to monitor their progress. If there are any pieces which you would like additional support with then do not hesitate to contact me via Class Dojo or through the school office.
Tuesday and Thursdays are our P.E. days this year and we have an awesome new P.E. scheme called Real P.E. that we are looking forward to using with the children. It is an excellent programme that sees every child as an individual, helping them to become more physically active. Please, ensure that your child has their kit with them every Tuesday and Thursday.

This will be given out every Friday and due in the next Wednesday. It is your child’s responsibility to make sure it is completed and handed in on time.
