E.L.S.A (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant)

Mrs Clapp is a trained ELSA within the school.  She carries out 1:1 and small group sessions with pupils.  She is also available for supportive 'check ins' with pupils that may be planned or responsive to the pupil's needs at that time.

The role of the ELSA is to support the emotional needs of pupils across the school. They also supports teachers, to play their part in promoting the emotional wellbeing of all pupils in their classrooms.

Mrs Clapp works with individual children to develop their social and emotional coping skills, by focusing on five key areas of competence. This helps them to be better equipped, to make the most of life’s opportunities.

Key Areas.

  • Emotional Awareness
  • Self Esteem
  • Anger Management
  • Social & Emotional Skills
  • Friendship Skills

Our ELSA also supports children with or without a diagnosis. ADHD,  ASC, Attachment and Service Children as required, ensuring that any barriers to learning are successfully reduced.

In addition Mrs Williams and Mrs Short are class based teaching assistants who are also ELSA trained and use the principles whilst supporting pupils within their classes.  We are hoping that two more Teaching Assistants will carry out the ELSA training this year.

Please contact Mrs Clapp (ELSA) or Mrs Hodgkins (SENCo) at the school office for further information.
