PSHE
At Woodfield Primary and Nursery School, we believe that effective Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) and Relationship and Health Education (RHE) is essential if young people are to make responsible and well-informed decisions about their lives.
We provide a curriculum which meets the needs of all of our children as well as Section 78 of the Education Act 2002, and the Academies Act 2010, which stipulates that such a curriculum ‘satisfies the requirements … if it is a balanced and broadly based curriculum which:
- promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society, and
- prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
We believe that this is essential in relation to to our pupil's personal development, behaviour, welfare and safeguarding.
RHE is not delivered in isolation and is firmly rooted within the PSHE and Science curriculum. The RHE curriculum ensures that pupils are supported through a range of listening and talking opportunities to develop a deep understanding of knowledge required to ensure that they are able to develop healthy and happy relationships as they grow into respectful members of society as well as preparing them for a successful adult life.
To ensure progression and a spiral curriculum, we use Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE, as our chosen teaching and learning programme and tailor it to your children’s needs. Furthermore, we take every opportunity to welcome health professionals to school to talk about wellbeing, healthy lifestyles and personal hygiene.
